HERNIEUWEN
These paintings which show my observations from mainly South America are my first paintings in the egg-tempera technique. A type of paint made by mixing pigments with egg yolk. In 2012 I started working on the project HERNIEUWEN. The project included a research into the use of egg-tempera and the function it could have in effectively bringing across the expressiveness of my paintings.
My painting technique is constantly developing. I strive for a loose, apparently effortless style of painting, without hesitation in the brushstroke. This requires extreme concentration, as it has to succeed in one go. In 2012 I learned the principles of egg-tempera, the paint’s opaque character. But I wanted to examine the effect of transparency more closely (which I had developed in my acrylic paintings) with the use of egg-tempera. I am using egg-tempera in a way that is almost transparent and the brushstrokes are visible. The outcome of the project was presented and discussed by experts in my studio at Duende Studios in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
